- There are three types of question you will be asked. Spend more time on the ‘comparing’ questions, they have the most marks!
- Read the question carefully and underline keywords, e.g. explain or compare. - Plan your answer, even if you only write a few words it will help. - Where you have a choice, make sure you can answer the highest mark section.
a)'s - Briefly describe the main discoveries made by Hippocrates. Briefly describe how Hitler dealt with opposition in 1933. A five mark question. List five things or explain three.
b)'s - Explain why Pasteur was able to make important discoveries in medicine. Explain why the Nazis persecuted Jews in Germany. Give reasons. Explain two reasons for full marks. If you run out of time after explaining one, mention another for another mark.
c)'s - 'Governments have helped rather than hindered developments in medicine' How far do you agree with this statement? Explain your answer. How successful were the Nazis in winning the loyalty and support of young people in Germany? Explain your answer. Give reasons for and against. Compare them in a conclusion, coming to a final decision for full marks.

Having marked lot's of your assessments this term (Year 10) there are some key areas for development Your knowledge is good, but it should be as each assessment is following just a fortnights work, what we need to do CRUCIALLY is - FULLY EXPLAIN - Using key words like BECAUSE OF, THEREFORE, DUE TO, AS A RESULT -
- ANSWER THE QUESTION!!! More often and obviously in your answers
- Use EVIDENCE - The Romans improved surgery. << VERY WEAK - The Romans improved surgery AS A RESULT OF the wars they had as their empire grew. New weapons were introduced that led to new wounds that the surgeons had to treat. DUE TO the wars the frequency of soldiers coming to the new army hospitals was high which allowed the surgeons to practice and get better.
Just think PEE - Point - Make your point Evidence / examples - Give examples or facts to back up your point Explain - Explain how this answers the question Any questions, let your teacher know.
